  • The registration using IRCTC is quite easy. Once you are ready to bookticket on IRCTC.


  • Step by step process to book a railway ticket
    • Open the browser and type www.IRCTC.co.in. This opens the below window.

    • Enter the username and password, and do the login to the website.

    • If you are a new users do signup (If you do not have a username and password )using the singuplink.

    • There are many options like booking history, Print ticket, Cancellation, Refunds and so on..

    • Now see how to book a ticket.
    • Enter the name of the cities you are traveling from and to in the FROM and TO list.( Ex: If you want to travel from Shimoga to Bangalore, then you have to type Shimoga in the from list, when you start typing a drop down list also appear you can also select from that).
    • Then choose the date when you want to travel.
    • Then you have a option of e-ticket and i-ticket. Choose one of them from the drop down list.
    • Then comes Quota field, where you can choose general , Tatkal or Ladies.
    • Then click on the button Find Trains.

    • There you will find the list of the trains that are available for specified place on the specified date .
    • you can see the list of trains available and also see all the classes that are available and not available with departure and arrival time.
    • Deside you want to travel in which class and then click on the requied class (fg lets say RAJYA RANI EXP 3A is available and SL is available,then click on the class you to want to travel in)
    • Then once you click on the list you find train details and Availability.

    • In train detail section the train name,number,travels from and to are mentioned.
    • In another section ie. availability check for the availability of seats are mentioned.
    • Whenever it is available then click on the book link.

    • If the from station is does'nt exist on the root of the train or that station has been deleted, Then you have to select 'From' station from the train root shown .
    • Then select the station you have to travel through,and find availability if it available click on book link

    • Now it gives an option to enter the passenger detail.

    • Now enter the name and age of the person who wants to travel. Select sex and birth preference from the drop down list.
    • Then if you want you can click on consider auto Upgradation.The Class of travel may be upgraded automatically to the next higher class. If you do not want to be considered for upgradation, please check the option box
    • NOTE: Are you the person who selects the option 'Consider Auto upgradation' when booking the ticket in IRCTC? Do you think that if you select the option your ticket will be consedered for the 'Auto upgradtion' to the next higher grade ?
      The fact is 'BIG NO'. Yes. It is true. Hold on. The truth is if you select the option 'Consider Auto upgradation' your ticket is not eligible for upgrade. Surprise ?
      Have you ever checked the link given on 'Consider Auto upgradation' in IRCTC ? The following information is given in the pls read this carefully.
      The Class of travel may be upgraded automatically to the next higher class. If you do not want to be considered for upgradation, please do not check the option box.

    • After this you need to enter the varification code given in the text box.
    • Then click on go.
    • Then reservation and passenger detail with the ticket detail is displayed.

    • Click on link make payment.
    • You can pay through multiple options like through Credit cards through Net Banking, Debit card, cash card or through EMI options.
    • If you want to see the booking history go to the home page. Click on Booking History.
    • Once you click on the Booking History Re-enter your password. Then click on Go button.
    • Now it will show the history of booking.
    • Select the ticket from the List Of Ticket, and then click on Print E-Ticket.
