Types of Memories


Static Memories:

  • Uses 4- 6 transistors to store one bit of data
  • Requires more space.
  • Faster than DRAM
  • Consumes less power than DRAM
  • SRAM cell maintains the stored data till the control signal is given to change the data.
  • The six transistor SRAM is shown. A signal applied to the word line (also called as address line) by the address decoder selects the cell either for Read or Write operation
  • The two bit lines (also called data lines) are used to transfer stored data and its compliment between the cell and data drivers
